Defending the United States of America is held with utmost importance by our government, states, communities and citizens.
Our troops require and maintain rigorous training schedules to keep prepared for war, developing new strategies that endure technological advancements and improved combat systems. Monitoring soldiers’ actions is crucial for effective training, and facilities are beginning to deploy enhanced monitoring tactics such as IP camera surveillance within their structures.
A large training facility located on a military base in Missouri chose to integrate IP camera monitoring into their training system. The base contracted NetWatch Inc., a surveillance systems integrator, to create a solution for their monitoring needs.
As part of the overall project, a multiple-building mock village was to be outfitted with numerous IP cameras in each building. Each camera was to be strategically situated to record a different angle of the facility, and provide extensive coverage of the buildings and soldiers’ behaviors under warlike conditions. The footage would be viewed by commanding officers in the facility’s monitoring room, for later discussion and use in future training lessons.
Additionally, the natural environment alone would be providing the temperature control in the mock village, and all products used on this part of the project would have to withstand harsh conditions. NetWatch turned to Comtrol Corporation for a crucial piece of their design, understanding reliable connectivity in these conditions is vital for efficient camera operation.
Comtrol’s RocketLinx ES7528 Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch was chosen for use in each of the buildings, as its rugged enclosure and wide operating temperature range met the required specifications. In addition, the intuitive management features helped NetWatch easily configure and deploy the switches, providing a robust and reliable solution while enabling an average of ten IP cameras per switch.
The RocketLinx ES7528 is a fully IEEE 802.3at compliant PoE Plus rack mount switch that features 24 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet ports and four Gigabit Uplink/SFP Combo ports. All of the fast Ethernet PoE injector ports can deliver 15.4W by IEEE 802.3af or 30W by the latest high power PoE IEEE 802.3at standard. This switch is designed for highly critical PoE applications such as realtime IP video surveillance and wireless communication systems.
